Yataghan Sword from Epirus, Greece - 6934


Up for sale is this rare Yataghan sword, with a handle in the shape found on knives and blades from Epirus, N.W Greece. The blade is 24 ½ inches marked with a maker stamp, the handle is chased silver with brass bolsters. The scabbard is wood covered with thin foil of chased silver. Fair condition. Unfortunately this Yataghan had seen its share in battle. The handle was struck by several hits from an opponent sword which left two clear cuts, with the third one probably cut deep into the handle, which required the repair by binding it with silver wire. Damaged silver scabbard with the scabbard mouth and tip missing. There were several repair attempt on both the handle and the scabbard, some of them crudely made. Sold as is at a very low price.
