Very Good persian Jambiya with Carved Walrus Hilt - 5586

A very good example of an 18th C. Persian Jambiya. The 9 ½ inches curved blade is forged from very good Persian wootz (Damascus) steel. The hilt is a solid piece of walrus Ivory. Classical ‘I’ shape cut entirely from the marble like core of the walrus tusk, and carved on both faces with a male human figures probably the king or other high ranking officer. The scabbard is wood covered with black tooled leather and walrus ivory tip. Good plus condition. Minor pitted spots on the blade. The grip carving is slightly worn but has a nice age patina and only few age cracks. There is a minor shrinkage to the leather cover on the back side.
