Fine Short Sword Africa ( Manding ??) - 7476

A very fine short sword, probably from central west Sahara, may be from the Manding people. It is far better and finer than most of the blades coming from the area and most probably belonged to a high ranking person. The straight blade is 16 ½ inches, lightly engraved. The handle is carved from a big beautifully carved ivory pieces with a silver collar. The scabbard is leather, tooled and decorated with braided colorful leather strips in a classical Manding style. Total length 23 inches. Very good condition. |
