Old Jimpul (Mandau) Dayak head Hunting Sword - 7475

Although similar, this is NOT a Mandau. It is better known as Jimpul and it is used in the same regions and same people who uses the Mandau sword. Not like in Mandau, the blade is curved upward and has a symmetrical cross section. The hilt however reminds that of the Mandau. Both the Jimpul and the Mandau are coming from Kalimantan (Borneo) and both are associated with the head hunting tradition of the Dayak. This Jimpul has a heavy, slightly up curving, 21 inches blade, filed and pierced tip and engraved on both sides. The handle is bone very elaborately carved, with traces f hair bundles. Wood scabbard bound with rattan bands. This sword comes with its original belt, made from natural fibers and covered with colorful fabric. Very good condition. Small blackened area with minor pitted spots and one battle scar on the edge on the blade. The belt is worn and part of it is missing. Two of the rattan bindings is a recent replacement.
