Very Good persian Jambiya with Carved Walrus Hilt - 5585

A superb, very good example of an 18th C. Persian Jambiya. The 9 inches curved blade is forged from very good Persian wootz (Damascus) steel and decorated with a gold koftgary inlay decoration. The hilt is a solid piece of walrus Ivory. Classical ‘I’ shape cut entirely from the marble like core of the walrus tusk, and carved on both faces with two human figures, a male and a female (probably the king and the queen), with Arabic inscription on the pommel and cross guard. The scabbard is wood covered with brown tooled leather and horn tip. Good plus condition. Some of the gold koftgary is gone but more than 90% remains. The grip has an excellent age patina and only few age cracks. There are minor damages to the leather cover on the back side.
