Sumatra Ache Klewand Sword Laminated Blade - 7447

A very interesting Klewang, one of the many variations of the Indonesian machete like knife. This one is probably Acheen from Sumatra, the second half of the 19th C. The blade is straight and single edge, 22 inches long with a 14 inches long fuller just below the spine. It is forged from folded steel. The steel bolster is forged in a polygonal shape. The hilt is carved of horn in a typical forked pommel. The scabbard is made of dark wood mounted with silver locket and chape. . Total length is 28 inches. Good condition. There are few patches of pitting on the blade and few nicks on the edge. The hilt has an age cracks but otherwise in very solid. Locket restored. Very reasonable price. |
