Yataghan Sword from the Balkan Dated 1851 - 7427


Up for sale is this good example of a Balkan Yataghan sword. Typical down curving blade, 23 inches long, decorated with silver koftgari with inscriptions in Arabic letters, signed and dated to 1268 in the Islamic calendar . This refers to 1651 in the Gregorian calendar. The handle is composed of two massive grips slabs carved from walrus ivory with the classical huge pommel ears. The bolster and grip strap are made from gilded chased copper and set with small coral stones. Wood scabbard with leather cover and chased tin foils. Total length (in scabbard) 31 inches. Good condition . One bolster is missing. The scabbard mounts are later. Repairs on the scabbard tip. Few coral stones are missing. Very low price.
