Very Good Wootz ( Damascus) Arab Shamshir Sword - 7422

This is an Arabic Saber / Saif of very good plus quality. The blade is of Persian origin, 18 C., 32 inches long, of fine wootz steel with very clear and high contrast pattern. It is marked with probably the maker name and with the talismanic Badouh magic square, both were inlaid with gold which is now worn off. The hilt is composed of horn grips, stee cross-guard with traces of gold inlay and a steel pommel head (recent), all in a typical Persian style. The scabbard is wood mounted with engraved silver locket and chape, and belt rings. Good overall condition. Blade in very good condition with very minor edge nicks and shallow pitted spots near the signature. Tang broken and repaired and hold very solid. One grip slab is cracked. Scabbard leather slightly worn and scabbard wood is slightly shrink with age causing minor tightness in full mounting of the sword.
