Big and Impressive Turkish Yatagan, dated 1858 - 5719

This is a big and very impressive Turkish Yatagan dated to 1273 (1858). The blade is 25 inches long, down curving with the edge on the concave side. It is inlaid with gold and silver koftgary work with the date and inscription in Arabic. The grips are carved from big pieces of walrus ivory in the classical form with big side ‘ears’. The grip strap is gold plated silver. The scabbard locket and chape are chased silver. Good condition, minor pitted spots on the blade A small hardly noticed crack and an old repair to the silver chape. A great piece. |
