Up for sale is this very fine short Yataghan sword . Most probably mid 19 C. In contrary to the more common Yataghans, this one has a short straight blade, with a strong T spine, tapering to an acute tip. The blade is 16 inches long, forged from Sham (Turkish Wootz steel). The grips are walrus ivory with big round ears and the grip strap and bolster are silver set with corals. The scabbard is heavy silver on wood liners beautifully chased. Total length 24 inches. Very good condition. Top part of bolster is repaired. Tip of scabbard very slightly distorted.
