Very Fine and Unusual Execution Keris Dagger - 7341

Up for sale is this unusual execution keris dagger / sword from Sumatra. This rare type of Keris was used to execute criminals. The long narrow blade was inserted above the collarbone of the sitting executed person and pushed down directly into the heart, causing instant death. The blade of this specific Keris is 21 ½ inches, narrow but thick and sturdy with acute tip and very heavy. The hilt is beautifully carved horn. The mendak is silver (recent). The scabbard is composed of many tenth of alternating horn and bone grips, and with a horn tip and polished grained wood mouth. Total length ( In scabbard) 26 inches. Very Good condition. Minor wood chips and cracks on the top of scabbard and old repairs. One of the bone rings is a replacement. This is a very rare version of the Indonesian traditional sword. |
