The Pulwar’ is the Afghan relative of the Indian Tulwar. The Pulwar hilt is of very distinct shape, with down curving quillons. The one offered here for sale is a very fine piece, completely forged from Indian wootz (Damascus) steel, blade as well as handle. Heavy, single edge blade 32 inches long with raised 9 inches back edge. The hilt is of classical shape Whole wootz steel construction with ribbed grip, pierced quillons, langet and pommel. Good scabbard with steel belt rings and chape. Total length 41 inches. Very good condition. Several small blackened areas on the blade with minor pitted spots. The scabbard leather is recent.
