18 C. Fighting Shamshir Sword from South India - 7332

We offer for sale this beautiful and interesting fighting sword from South India, probably Mysore, late 18 C. Good strong blade, shamshir style, 31 inches long with a single fuller. Brass cast handle entirely plated with heavy silver. The pommel is shaped like an animal (Mongoose??) head and the center sides of the cross guard as well as the quillon tips are carved with tiger heads. This sword come with its original scabbard with black leather cover and two big chased silver belt rings attachments. Total length 37 inches ( In scabbard). Very good condition to age. Very minor pitted spots on the blade. The silver plating on the handle is partially erased. Some losses to the scabbard leather. The silver tip of the scabbard is later. A very unusual and good sword of quality. |
