Huge Qajar Persian Axe Chiseled Blade - 7294

This huge axe is Persian, from the late Qajar period, second half of the 19 C. A huge semicircular blade, 10 ½ inches tip to tip and 5 inches wide chiseled with decorative inscription in Arabic letters and gold koftgary design in a classical Qajar style. The Calligraphy is very impressive. It has a rear blade 6 inches long and 2 inches wide with the same style of decoration. The blades are mounted on a steel haft etched in a pattern to imitate Damascus steel, and with a 5 inches spike steel tip. Total length is 42 inches. Perfect condition. This Axe is probably ceremonial but has a heavy efficient blade if needed. It is of better quality than many Qajar Axes on the market
