Qama - Long Single Edge Kindjal Sword - 5588

There are a lot of debates regarding the exact name of this type of dagger / short sword. Some people call it “QAMA”, other call it “QUADARA”. These names also applies to other - similar but not exactly the same - weapon. I prefer to call it a “Single edge Kindjal”. It origin is certainly in the Caucasus region. It comes in various sizes, up to 30 inches, and in a variety of quality and materials. This specific example has a single edge blade, 23 inches long. It has three fullers on one side and two on the other. The wide ones are etched with a floral design. There is a clear Islamic maker sign in the shape of six point star (Star of David) deeply stamped into the blade. The grips are of black horn, riveted to the blade tang with brass rivets and rivet disks made from old silver coins. The scabbard is wood covered with the original green dyed leather and mounted with a chased brass tip. The ring attachment is also brass. Total length is 31 plus inches. Some pitted areas on the blade and few small chips from the grip horn. The leather cover of the is worn and slightly loosed and damaged at the tip. The brass tip is dented. Otherwise, all in very good solid condition, considering its age. It is a very interesting addition to any Caucasian or other edged weapon collection.
