Up for sale is this fine example of a Balkan Yataghan sword. Typical down curving blade, 22 ½ inches long, entirely inlaid with silver (true inlay) of inscriptions in Arabic letters on both sides, signed and dated to 122 in the Islamic calendar (1220 as the zero is sometime omitted). This refers to 1805 in the Gregorian calendar. The handle is composed of two massive grips slabs carved from walrus ivory with the classical huge pommel ears. The bolster and grip strap are made from gilded chased silver and set with small coral stones. Total length 28 inches. Very good condition . Few age cracks on the ivory. Old repairs and minor damages on the grip strap. Few coral stones are missing.
