Silver mounted Pedang Sword, Indonesia - 6930

The ‘Pedang’ is an Indonesian short sword, common in Java but can be found also in other Indonesian islands. The blade of this one is 19 inches long, with 11 inches back edge. It is forged from good pamor steel clearly evident. The hilt is covered with thin silver and shaped in a monster head. The scabbard wood is covered with chased and embossed silver in an elaborate design, highly decorative. Good condition. Some minor pitting on the blade tip and a minor damage to the silver on the pommel end. Very good item, dated probably to the second half of the 19 C.
