The blade of this Massive Kard knife is forged out of superb Persian wootz. It is heavy 10 ½ inches long single edged. The grips are made from six sectors of Walrus ivory with great age patina, riveted to the blade tang with four rivets (slightly rusted around) and separated with black horn separators, a common technique to avoid (or repair ) age cracks in the ivory. The scabbard is wood with the original gilded silver locket and chape but with a recent velvet covering. This is a superb piece of wootz steel, probably 18 Century from Persia or North India. The grips separators are later. The blade is in good condition with only minor darkened pitted spots. A great piece for the lovers of wootz steel.
