Chieftain Axe of the Songye People, Africa - 6952

The Songye people reside in central Zaire and are known to be masters in metal work. The chiefs of the Songye families carry a axe made in a very interesting blacksmith wrought iron work. Open work blade with twisted rods and little human faces. Here is such a nice example. 10 inches blade, wood haft covered with copper and copper nails. Very good condition. Excellent age patina.
