Good Early Balkan Yataghan Sword 1809 - 6810


A good classical “YATAGHAN” from the Balkan with an early 21 inches long blade of laminated steel construction, inscribed with real silver inlay with Arabic letters and decoration and dated to 1224 in the Islamic calendar (1809 in the Gregorian calendar). The grips with the side ears are cast from brass and plated with white metal, (Zinc or Zinc/Tin alloy). The grip strap and the blade collar are set with red stones (??). Chased brass scabbard also plated as the grips. Total length 28 inches. Good condition. The wood lining of the scabbard is missing. This is an early 19 C. blade mounted later, probably tword the end of the 19 C with new grip and scabbard, made to fit this blade.
