Rare Islamic Klewang from Sumatra - 6887

A very interesting and Rare Islamic Klewang, one of the many variations of the Indonesian machete like knife. This one is Acheen from Sumatra, the second half of the 19th C. The blade is straight and single edge, 21 ½ inches long with a fuller just below the spine. The steel bolster is forged in a polygonal shape. The bolster and blade are inlaid with gold. There is an Arabic inscription as well. The hilt is carved of rare horn in a typical forked pommel, its lower section is made of bone. Total length is 27 1/2 inches. It is rare to find Asian blades with real old Islamic inscriptions and those are very much sought after. There are few small pitted areas on the blade and few nicks on the edge. Otherwise it is in a very solid piece. Very reasonable reserve.
