Silver Mounted Piso Podang Sword, Batak, Sumatra. - 6925


The Podang, sometimes also known as Piso Podang is a sword common to Sumatra and specifically to the Batak People. The influence of the Indian Tulwar sword on its specific hilt shape is evident. This one is a very small version, may be made for a youngster. It has a single edged fullered and curved blade, 16 inches long with a 3 ½ inches back edge. The hilt is of a typical form carved from a solid single piece of hardwood reverse cup shape pommel. Wood scabbard bound with with chased silver fittings. Total length 22 inches. Very good condition.
