A very curious and unusual heavy knife / machete probably from the Philippines. A heavy 5/8 inches thick, 13 ½ inches long slightly up-curving blade. Wood hilt bound with braided rattan bands and an open wood scabbard with many iron strips securing the blade in place. Good condition. The blade is clean but there are signs of being re-sharpened. The hilt wood is cracked at its back side but still very solid. The tip of the scabbard is restored. Very attractive price.
