19 C. Three Bladed Scissors Kattar - 5829

Here is one of the interesting variations of the Kattar , the famous Hindu push dagger. This one is known in India as: Jamadhar Sehlikaneh or literally: having three blades. In the western world it is known as Scissors Kattar. When the grip’s cross bars are squeezed together, the outer blade opens to reveal an internal additional blade. This specific item is having a blade of 8 inches and both the blades and the handle parts are decorated in gold koftgary with animals of hunting: Elephants, tigers, antelopes and the like. Very good plus condition, only minor freedom of the main axes on which the blades are open. This is a very nice example of this family of Kattars. It is probably early 19 C. whereas most of these Kattars on the market are dated to the early – middle 20th Century.
