Heavy Short Tulwar with a Khukuri Notch, India - 0391

This is an Indian short sword, from the northern areas of India. The blade is short 15 inches long and 3 inches wide, down curving and very heavy. The hilt is a classical Tulwar hilt decorated with silver koftgari work. The interesting part is the notch cut in the heel of the edge, very similar to the notch of the Nepalese Khukuri. My assumption is that the notch is an influence from the neighboring Nepal, and the sword maker wanted to add to the sword some of the superb qualities of the Khukuri by imitating the notch.
